Adeste Fideles- Glee Clubs Of America (1925)

Rating-- 6/10

It feels pretty weird listening to a Christmas song in July, with New Year's Eve exactly six months from now. There isn't much to say about this song. I know it got picked for the Recording Registry because of the method surrounding its recording-- it seems that the Glee Club version of the classic Christmas carol is a promotional recording to show how good electrical recording can be-- this recording is from the 1920s, when most recordings sounded like they were recorded with corn on the cob or something.

The name of the song is Latin, but all the lyrics are familiar Christmas lyrics (O Come All Ye Faithful, etc., it's the kind of song that has a lot of extra lyrics). This particular recording isn't even notable enough to get a mention on the "Adeste Fideles" Wikipedia page under "Recordings". It seems that the song gets a mention in the Registry just for being an electronic recording.

I was kind of expecting "Glee" when I saw it was recorded by the "Glee Clubs Of America" but fortunately (or unfortunately?) it was a very heavy and slightly annoying chorus-y version that sounds like any 1920s choir recording.

Today's "Music Was So Much Better Back Then" Comment:

None. Nobody seems to think this is "better" than modern music, or maybe they just have the Christmas spirit.
